Explore ACTION THIS DAY

Phase 2

(2014 to 2016)

Orphanage project

Improving the lives of the most disadvantaged children is at the heart of ACTION THIS DAY’s work. We will raise funds to build an orphanage on the school grounds to house 20 orphans, and they will also be attending the Kookaburra Community School.

Secondary School

Secondary education increases employment opportunities significantly.  At present, 50% to 60% of final year students in the Kookaburra Community School qualify for entry into secondary school based on grades alone; however 0% of the students are able to afford this.

Adding a secondary school on the project grounds will enable ACTION THIS DAY to provide higher education to a much higher percentage of disadvantaged children than possible through individual scholarships.

Internship program

ACTION THIS DAY will secure partnerships with local businesses and tradesmen, allowing older students to gain practical experience and make contacts useful for future employment.

This programme will also play an important role for the children who may not be academically gifted enough to pursue secondary school education. ACTION THIS DAY will not leave these students behind and will hence seek training opportunities for them as an alternative to secondary school.

Transfer management to local team

ACTION THIS DAY’s final aim is to transfer operational control to local management. This is an important step in creating a sustainable operation, run by Kenyans for the benefit of Kenyans.

ACTION THIS DAY will remain an advisor to the project, retain oversight of financial management, and retain ownership of any major assets including land and buildings on a not-for-profit basis.
